If eMarketing is on your bank’s horizon, it’s important to start building your email database now so you can be ready when the time comes to kick off your eMarketing campaign component or eNewsletter. We encourage you to use the following ideas as a springboard to get started.
Talk with your Staff
Discuss the importance and role that eMarketing will have in your future marketing efforts. Let them know how they can help, including: gathering email addresses at time of account application (loans and deposits) and during business calls or contacts. Additionally, ask them to provide email addresses from their list of contacts who might be good prospects. Ask for their ideas and suggestions for additional ways to build your email database.
New Account Forms
Add a place for the customer’s email address on your new account/loan forms as well as a box the customer can check so they know that you may send them e-mail messages/newsletters in the future.
Statement Stuffers/Lobby Handouts
Create eye-catching statement stuffers/handouts to let your customers know how they will benefit from your eMessages/eNewsletters, and encourage them to sign up/provide you with their current email address. Some banks include an incentive to provide email addresses (i.e. prize drawing).
Direct Mail
Introduce your eMarketing efforts to your customers and/or surrounding market. A mailer encourages them to watch for your message and lets them know that it is a legitimate email from your bank. Additionally, it gives you the opportunity to let them know how they will benefit, and gives them information about how to sign up.
Update Website
Add a sign-up section to your website’s homepage, contact us page, or internet banking log-in that links to a form to collect email addresses. Consider a web banner ad promoting the benefits of eMessages, and encourage sign-up.
Statement Message
Add information on your customer’s statements about how they can get on your email list.
Food for Thought
Keep in mind the tracking capabilities of eMarketing as you work on moving forward. This is a great way to know who opens your email as well as their areas of interest. Be among the first in your market to communicate via email with your customers and prospects!
