Overview
Great Southern Bank acquired a local Des Moines financial institution, and though they were a very stable, well-known entity in their native Springfield, MO, they were not as well known in Iowa.
Because of this, the strategy developed for Des Moines, a relatively over-banked market, was to make a splash by partnering with Variety Club of Iowa – the Children’s Charity, to make an initial large contribution, followed by a savings promotion that gave back to the charity for each account opened.
Great Southern Bank brought in $8 million in new deposits, while donating an impressive $10,000 to Variety of Iowa.
